At the personal invitation by MIF’s General Manager, NODUS developed the chapter “Microfinance institutions in times of crisis” in the book The Latin American model of microfinance), edited by the IDB. The chapter deals with microfinance institutions and their exposure and reaction to systemic risks. Three countries were chosen to be included in this chapter: Ecuador, Bolivia, and Uruguay, and seven of these institutions were involved in microfinance activities. Individualized studies were carried out on these countries and institutions to define the most significant characteristics of the crisis to achieve the objectives of this study, identify the activities of each institution and their consequences. Finally, global conclusions and lessons learned were drawn.
